I sent an enquiry to the Home Office, Government of UK, to try and collaborate with someone who deals with wider community cohesion issues. I was fortunate to get a reply.

"The main thrust at the moment is about community cohesion which has as its four strands

• Inclusive notions of citizenship, identity and belonging
• eradicating racism & extremism
• tackling inequalityand providing opportunities for all
• building cohesive communities

We are attempting to address the above within the wider notion of "Britishness" which allows people to express their identity within a common framework of rights and responsibilities, allegiance to the law, parliamentary govt  and active citizenship...

One of the key messages coming from the disturbances we had a few years ago in the north was the notion the groups were living " parallel lives" and that we need to move away from that and get groups to engage with each other...

There is the notion as described by Trevor Phillips chair of CRE that we need to be moving away from multi culturalism  to a mind set which states that Britishness includes us not just white folks.....interesting read and more on the CRE website and would be useful in developing your ideas further.

I hope the above gives you some pointers in developing your thoughts further and that your project goes well."
